My goal as a facilitator

At GR Consulting our goal when working as a facilitator is to ensure that clients achieve all outputs we agreed on with them. That’s our aim for every activity–whether it’s setting future directions, workplace change, using design concepts for innovating, designing engagement and extension projects or reviewing projects.

The process begins by establishing with our client the purpose, the outputs required and the need/benefit they deliver on for the client. Knowing purpose, outputs and need makes it possible for us and our client to design the steps to deliver on them.

While facilitating, we monitor progress by:

• Checking with the client as we move through the process

• Checking on progress with the whole group both directly and by observation whenever needed

• Keeping an ‘eye’ on my own thinking so my actions or ego don’t interfere in the process, and

• Evaluating with all attendees at the end, on what we achieved and how the process helped or hindered.

The evaluation makes it possible for us at GR Consulting to learn each time we facilitate. The overall method means both our client and GRC gain from the experience.
