Understanding yourself and others – through MBTI personality type

Self-knowledge of how we prefer to operate is a practical first move to improved quality of life and work. Knowledge of how others can prefer to operate differently to ourselves is the practical second move. Together these can explain how we engage more readily with some people than others in life and work.

MBTI shows our preferences for getting information and making decisions about what we get, these are the two functions we do all the time. It can be info in detail or in the big picture, and for decisions it can be done objectively or through values.

What is useful to know is that our preferences impact on how we live, work and engage with others in our world.

Understanding Type through the Myers-Brigg Type Indicator (MBTI), enables us to be self-aware and to self-manage. The spinoff in teams is the ability to recognise and value differences, manage conflict more readily and know how to work in the team.

With accreditation in MBTI Steps I and II GR Consulting offers individuals and teams the opportunity to explore how personality type can improve life and work situations in meaningful ways.

Two examples of what previous workshop participants said are:

  • Excellent workshop with helping me to understand/know what my preferences are so I can work on what is the true ‘me’. I feel it will be useful for our team during teleconferences. (9/10)

  • I’ll be looking at personality types within our team and how to we can now be more effective within our team. (9/10)
